ÁFRICA COM MAIS 373 MORTOS E 12.941 CASOS NAS ÚLTIMAS 24 HORAS

 Africa recorded an additional 373 deaths in the last 24 hours due to covid-19, for a total of 102,843 deaths, and 12,941 cases of the new coronavirus, according to the latest official pandemic data in the region.

According to the African Union's Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the total number of cases is 3,869,522 and the number of recovered in the last 24 hours in the 55 member states of the organization was superior to that of new cases (14,757), totaling 3,436,283.


Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,826,074 cases and 56,000 deaths. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, accounts for 1,509,124 infections and 49,667 deaths.


North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic: 1,156,028 infected and 32,634 fatalities.


East Africa has now passed 400,000 infections (400,244) and reports 7,472 deaths, while in West Africa the number of cases is 384,228 and that of deaths is 4,926.


Central Africa accounts for 102,948 cases and 1,784 deaths.


Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 10,548 deaths and 180,640 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8,598 fatalities and 482,514 cases.


Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 7,911 deaths and 231,298 cases, Algeria, with 2,975 deaths and 112,530 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2,321 fatalities and 156,112 infections.


Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique records 613 deaths and 57,597 cases, followed by Angola (502 deaths and 20,695 cases of infection), Cape Verde (145 deaths and 15,201 cases), Equatorial Guinea (91 deaths and 5,957 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (48 dead and 3,215 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (27 dead and 1,719 cases).


The first case of covid-19 in Africa emerged in Egypt on 14 February 2020, and Nigeria was the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to register cases of infection on 28 February.
